Introduction – CTET Exam

CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test), is a national recruitment process to appoint the skilful teachers for Primary level & Upper Primary Level. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct CTET exam in an offline mode.

Teachers Eligibility Test – Eligibility Criteria (NCTE rules for upper primary teacher recruitment)

CTET Eligibility Criteria

Applicant needs to fulfil the below-mentioned requirements in order to appear for CTET. Please note that the eligibility criteria depends purely on the Class for which the candidate is applying for:

Primary Level

  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2 year Diploma in Elementary Education. Or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2 year Diploma in Elementary Education. Or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4 year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed). Or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2 year Diploma in Education. Or
  • Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2 year Diploma in Elementary Education

Upper Primary Level

  • Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2 year Diploma in Elementary Education. Or
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1 year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed). Or
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 1 year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed). Or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4 year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed). Or
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4 year B.A / B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed. Or
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1 year B.Ed.
Few Notes:
  • Candidates belonging to reserved categories (SC / ST / OBC / Differently abled) will be given relaxation of up to 5% in the qualifying marks in the minimum Educational Qualification for CTET eligibility.
  • Diploma / Degree Course in Teacher Education: For the purpose of this Notification, a Diploma / Degree course in teacher education recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) will only be considered. However, in case of Diploma in Education (Special Education) and BED (Special Education), a course recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) only shall be considered.
  • Training to be undergone: A person with DEd (Special Education) or qualification shall undergo, after appointment, an NCTE recognised 6-month Special Programme in Elementary Education.
  • The minimum CTET qualifications referred above apply to teachers of Languages, Mathematics, Social Studies / Social Science, Science etc. The minimum qualification norms for Physical Education teachers referred to in NCTE Regulation, dated November 3, 2001 (as amended from time to time) shall be applicable.
  • For teachers of Art Education, Craft Education, Home Science, Work Education, etc. the existing eligibility norms prescribed by the State Governments and other school managements shall be applicable till such time the NCTE lays down the minimum qualifications in respect of such teachers.

  • The CTET exam has 2 papers.
    Paper – I is for those who wish to teach Ist to Vth Classes.
    Paper – II is for those who wish to teach VIth to VIIIth Classes.
  • In case if an applicant wants to teach both levels, they would be required to sit for both paper I and II. All questions in the CTET test are multiple choice questions. There is no negative marking.

The result for CTET exam is expected to be declared in March on the official website of the exam. CTET Result would be declared on 2 websites – ctet.nic.in and cbseresults.nic.in.
