MICAT (Mudra Institute of Communication Admission Test) is a computer based qualifying test for the PGDM-C (Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Communications) admissions offered by MICA, Ahmedabad.

MICAT Exam – Eligibility Criteria

Educational Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree, with the 10+2+3 system (minimum 15 years of education), from a recognized University
  • The graduation degree in any stream will be considered valid. Students in their final year of graduation are also eligible
  • A candidate should have a valid score in one of the national level management test, namely, CAT, XAT or GMAT
  • MICAT does not provide any kind of seat reservation for candidates from different categories

MICAT Exam Syllabus

The test will be held in a computer-based mode and it will contain 2 papers i.e. Paper I and Paper II. To prepare for Paper I, the candidates can go through the following topics:
  • Reasoning
  • General Awareness
  • Written Ability
  • Psychometric Test

MICA Admission Test will be conducted in 2 parts. 1st part comprises of General Awareness & Reasoning and 2nd part comprises of Psychometric Test. The duration of MICAT exam is 2 hours.The MICAT Exam Pattern includes both descriptive as well as objective questions.

MICAT Syllabus is designed to assess analytical aptitude, different thinking, written communication skills and general awareness about the communications industry.



Syllabus – Paper 1

Part I of MICAT comprises of total 60 MCQ questions from Reasoning and General Questions.

Reasoning – Syllabus

  • The topics included in this section are Visual Reasoning, Word Association, Data Sufficiency and Statement Conclusion
  • It consists of 35 questions with 5 answer options for all the questions. The candidates are judged on their analytical abilities in this section

General Awareness – Syllabus

The questions pertain to topics such as advertising, marketing, global awareness, general knowledge, film and media. This section consists of 25 questions with 4 options for every question. Important topics that candidates can look upon during their preparation:

  3. National Current Affairs
  4. Sports News & News on Indian Power Sector
  5. Politics, Literature & Indian Constitution
  6. History, Culture, Geography, Economy & International Affairs
  7. Science & Research Advertising

Syllabus – Paper 2: MICA Writing Ability

  • It judges candidates based on their views on a particular topic. In this part, the candidate will be given a topic and the candidate will have to write for and against the topic
  • Keep in mind, the conclusion has to be one sided, either support or oppose the motion. Not taking a stance would show lack of conviction in the ideas portrayed
  • The next question in this section is based on a picture composition. On the basis of pictures given in the question, the candidates have to write a story

Syllabus – Paper 2: MICA Psychometric Test

  • The paper 2 comprises Psychometric Test and the duration for the test is 30 minutes
  • The paper primarily aims to assess candidates’ personality and verify whether he/she is fit to be part of MICAT
  • The exam is designed to check candidates’ thought process and understanding of various problem solving principles

MICAT Exam: Exam Pattern

The entrance examination of MICAT is slightly different from other Indian B-schools/ Management entrance exams.
  • The test will assess the candidates applying in areas such as Creative Thinking, Written Communication, General Awareness about contemporary social and business issues, including areas relevant to marketing, advertising & current affairs
  • The test also includes a psychometric examination
  • Paper 1 comprises Descriptive questions while Paper 2 contains objective questions
  • Paper 1 comprises of 4 descriptive questions. Paper 2 Section 1 is the Psychometric Test, which includes 30 statements. General Knowledge section has 25 questions. Reasoning and Verbal Ability has 35 questions. Hence, the total number of questions is 94

Marking Scheme

The total marks of the MICAT paper are not declared by MICA. There is no negative marking. Only GK, Reasoning and Verbal Ability has 25% negative marking in case of wrong answers.

MICAT Results

Final Results of MICAT – I and MICAT – II will be notified and published by the First week of April on their official website.

MICAT Selection Process

  • MICAT test will be conducted at 48 cities. Better of the two MICAT Scores will be considered for the admissions
  • For MICAT, the admission is done on the basis of candidate's performance in any one of the 3 entrance exams: CAT, XAT and GMAT as well as their performance in MICAT Entrance Exam
  • Admission is done on the basis of the composite scores of the MICAT Test, Group Exercise (GE) and Personal Interview (PI). And shortlisted candidates will be called for GE and PI at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata & Mumbai
