Introduction - JEE Main

JEE Main (Joint Entrance Exam), which is a premier exam for any Engineering aspirant, will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) which was previously conducted by CBSE for admission to B.E / B.Tech & B.Arch / B.Planning courses.

JEE Main is also a qualifying exam for applicants who wish to appear for JEE Advanced 2019. Paper - I of JEE Main (B.E / B.Tech) acts as an entrance door to various IITs, NITs and NEUTs. Candidates who wish to apply for B.Arch. program, have to choose Paper - II of JEE Main. An estimate of 13 lakh candidates are expected to apply for JEE Main 2019.

JEE Main 2017 Stats

  • Only 11.21 lakh appeared for the exam out of 11.86 lakh candidates who registered for the exam
  • Only 9.56 lakh appeared for the online test out of 11.21 lakh who appeared, and only 2.21 lakh managed to qualify for JEE Advanced 2017
  • State-wise number of qualified candidates who passed JEE Main 2017 were majorly from Maharashtra (1.66k+), Andhra Pradesh (80k) and Bihar (78k)

Eligibility Criteria 2019

Academic Qualification

  • Candidates appearing for class 12 examination in 2019 can also apply
  • Candidates should have passed Class 12 examination with minimum 45% marks in each subject (40% in case of reserved categories)
  • Note: No weightage will be given to Class 12th marks while calculating AIR for JEE Main 2019
  • Those who are applying for B.E / B. Tech must have Physics and Mathematics along with one of these subjects Chemistry / Biology / Biotechnology
  • For admission to IITs and NITs candidates should score 75% or be in the top 20 percentile of the 10+2 exam
  • The candidates who have applied for B.Arch / B. Planning must have studied Mathematics. They should also score a minimum of 50% marks in total including the 5 subjects

Number of Attempts

  • A total of 3 attempts will be provided to clear JEE Main
  • While JEE Advanced can be attempted twice in consecutive years

Age Criteria

  • Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1993 (5 years relaxation for SC / ST/PwD. i.e 1988)

Exam Dates 2019

JEE Main 2019 Exam would be conducted in 8 sittings. Paper - I would be conducted from 6th - 20th January, 2019 and Paper - II would be conducted from 6th - 20th April, 2019

Exam Centers 2019

NTA will conduct JEE Main 2019 across 258 test locations including 110+ cities in India. Applicants will get a chance to choose their desired JEE Main Exam Center during JEE Main registration process.

  • If the candidates opt for offline mode, they have to mention 4 preferences of JEE Main exam centers
  • In case, they opt for the computer based test, they can select only 1 preference in the application form

Results 2019

  • JEE Main 2019 Results are expected to be declared on 31st January, 2019 for Paper - I and 30th April, 2019 for Paper - II. And results will be available on the official website
  • The AIR list will be tentatively published on 30th June, 2019

CutOffs 2019

  • The cut off will be prepared on the basis of the AIR list
  • JEE Main Joint Admission Board (JAB) will release the JEE Main Cut-off
  • On the basis of the AIR list, the candidates can take admission in the B.E / B.Tech program at NITs and other state-owned colleges accepting JEE Main Score
  • JEE Main Cut off is prepared on the basis of the normalized score and last 5 years Cut-off Trends shows a drop in the Cut-off

Cut-Off Trend Analysis

  • Last 5 years trends shows that qualifying Cut-off is coming down every year. For instance, General Category has seen a considerable drop from 115 in 2014 to 74 in 2018. Similarly, OBC shows a drop from 74 (2014) to 45 (2018)
  • Entrance Exam is getting tougher every year
  • This also means that candidates are not performing well as they did previously from last 5 year

Counselling 2019

  • Jee Main 2019 Counselling will commence in June 2019
  • JEE Main Counselling is primarily done at 3 levels (online mode)
  • For IITs, IIITs, NITs and other Central Government Funded Technical Institutes - Joint Seat Allocation Authority
  • For AICTE approved institutes in NE States & UTs - Central Seat Allocation Board-NEUT
  • For Self-funded Technical Institutes - CSAB-SFTI
