Introduction – JEE Main

JEE Main (Joint Entrance Exam), which is a premier exam for any Engineering aspirant, will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) which was previously conducted by CBSE for admission to B.E / B.Tech & B.Arch / B.Planning courses.

JEE Main is also a qualifying exam for applicants who wish to appear for JEE Advanced. Paper – I of JEE Main (B.E / B.Tech) acts as an entrance door to various IITs, NITs and NEUTs. Candidates who wish to apply for B.Arch. program, have to choose Paper – II of JEE Main.

Eligibility Criteria

Academic Qualification

  • Candidates appearing for class 12 examination in can also apply
  • Candidates should have passed Class 12 examination with minimum 45% marks in each subject (40% in case of reserved categories)
  • Note: No weightage will be given to Class 12th marks while calculating AIR for JEE Main
  • Those who are applying for B.E / B. Tech must have Physics and Mathematics along with one of these subjects Chemistry / Biology / Biotechnology
  • For admission to IITs and NITs candidates should score 75% or be in the top 20 percentile of the 10+2 exam
  • The candidates who have applied for B.Arch / B. Planning must have studied Mathematics. They should also score a minimum of 50% marks in total including the 5 subjects

Number of Attempts

  • A total of 3 attempts will be provided to clear JEE Main
  • While JEE Advanced can be attempted twice in consecutive years

Age Criteria

  • Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1993 (5 years relaxation for SC / ST/PwD. i.e 1988)

JEE Main Exam – Exam Centers

  • The National Testing Agency (NTA) has conducted the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – 2024 Session 1 (January 2024) in about 544 Centres in 291 Cities (including 21 cities outside India)
  • The Examination was held in 13 languages (Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu).
  • The Examination was also conducted in 21 cities outside India: Manama, Doha, Dubai, Kathmandu, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, Singapore, Kuwait City, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos/Abuja, Colombo, Jakarta, Moscow, Ottawa, Port Louis, Bangkok, and Washington D.C.
  • The examination was also conducted in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, and Oslo cities for the first time.
  • In comparison to the previous year, the number of registered candidates is about 12,31,874. The number of cities and centres also increased where the examination was conducted.

JEE Main Exam Results

  • JEE Main Phase 1 Results are expected to be declared on First week of March
  • Other Phase Exam Results will be notified later
  • Results will be available on the official website
  • The AIR list will be tentatively published on 4th week of June,





JEE Main Exam Cutoffs

The minimum marks in JEE Mains to qualify for JEE Advanced 2024 are yet to be announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Candidates can however check the previous year trends in the minimum qualifying percentile required in JEE Mains below:
